How to Install a Wireless Video Doorbell in 10 Minutes (No Wiring Needed)
Share
One of the biggest objections to upgrading your front door is the assumption that a smart doorbell means hiring an electrician, tearing into the wall, or losing power to your old chime. With a modern wireless video doorbell, none of that is true.
Below is the exact 10-minute install we follow when mounting an Auravis Smart Wireless Doorbell on a typical front door. The same process applies to most battery-powered video doorbells.
What you need
- Your wireless video doorbell (Auravis ships with mounting bracket and screws included)
- 2 × 18650 rechargeable lithium batteries, 2600 mAh recommended (sold separately for safe international shipping)
- A small Phillips screwdriver
- A smartphone connected to your home 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
- Optional: a pencil and a spirit level for a perfectly straight mount
Step 1 — Charge and insert the batteries
Charge both 18650 cells fully before installation. Open the battery cover on the back of the doorbell, insert the cells in the orientation shown, and close it. The status LED should light up.
Step 2 — Install the Tuya Smart app
Download Tuya Smart from the App Store or Google Play. Create a free account, tap Add Device, and choose Camera & Lock → Smart Doorbell. Make sure your phone is on the 2.4 GHz band of your router — the doorbell does not connect to 5 GHz.
Step 3 — Pair the doorbell to Wi-Fi
Press and hold the reset button on the doorbell until you hear a pairing tone. In the Tuya app, enter your Wi-Fi password and follow the on-screen QR code. Pairing usually completes in under 60 seconds.
Step 4 — Choose a mounting location
Pick a spot beside your door at roughly chest height (about 1.2–1.5 m / 4–5 ft from the ground). The doorbell needs a clear line of sight to capture faces and packages. Avoid placing it behind glass or directly into strong sunlight.
Step 5 — Mark and mount the bracket
Hold the included bracket against the wall, use a pencil to mark the screw holes, and drill two small pilot holes. Screw the bracket in. If your doorframe is wood or PVC, the included screws go straight in.
Step 6 — Click in the doorbell
Slide the doorbell onto the bracket from the top. You'll hear a small click when it locks in. Lock the security screw at the base to prevent removal.
Step 7 — Test motion alerts and two-way audio
Walk in front of the door — you should get a motion notification on your phone within seconds. Tap it, then tap the mic icon to test two-way talk. If audio is clear in both directions, you're done.
Common gotchas
- Wi-Fi will not pair. Make sure your phone is on the 2.4 GHz band during setup, not 5 GHz.
- The doorbell appears offline. Wi-Fi signal at the door may be too weak. A small mesh node or Wi-Fi extender near the entrance solves this.
- Batteries drain quickly. Lower the motion sensitivity inside the app, or narrow the detection zone to ignore the street.
You're set
That's it — total install time is usually 8–12 minutes, and there's no wiring, no electrician, and no monthly subscription required. Your front door is now a 24/7 checkpoint you can monitor from your phone, your office, or another country.
